SUSQUEHANNA WARRIOR TRAIL EVENT REQUIREMENTS

Thank you for your interest in utilizing the Susquehanna Warrior Trail (SWT) for your event. As you are most likely aware, the SWT provides our community with a safe, vibrant, attractive riverfront recreational area. The trail has successfully repurposed a formerly inaccessible natural area on the bed of the former Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad in Luzerne County into a 12 1/2-mile hiking and biking trail along the Susquehanna River. It now provides hikers, bikers, and cross-country skiers a safe and scenic outlet for healthy exercise much needed to offset our sedentary lifestyles. SWT has no paid staff or funding and is maintained entirely through the cooperative efforts of volunteers and other community-minded parties.

We are excited to host your event.  Please note the following requirements in regard to Trail usage.

  1.  All activities must be approved by the Susquehanna Warrior Trail Council (SWTC).  If approved, you will have a SWTC contact person assigned to your event.

  2. As part of the SWT Easement Agreement, fundraising events such as walk-a-thons or races may only benefit Not-for-Profit groups. Events for commercial purposes are strictly prohibited. Post-race, events organized by commercial/for-profit entities will need to submit a written document to the SWTC showing 100% of the profits were distributed to charities.

  3. The event organizer is responsible for procuring event insurance for the duration of the event.  The Certificate Holder on the Certificate of Liability should be listed as: Susquehanna Warrior Trail Council, PO 54, Shickshinny, PA 18655, and Additional Insured should be listed as: PG Energy/UGI and Beneficiaries, 460 N Gulph Rd #100, King of Prussia, PA 19406.  Evidence of insurance shall be provided to the SWTC prior to the event.

  4. If activities begin or end in the Borough of Shickshinny utilizing the Borough’s park space and pavilions, the organizer must notify Shickshinny Borough in advance.  Phone: 570-542-2178 or email: shickboro@pa.metrocast.net

  5. The Shickshinny Volunteer Ambulance Association is to be notified of the event date and time. Tina: 570-899-1190/570-542-7707

  6. There are no public restroom facilities on the SWT.  Organizers must plan on renting port-a-potties for the event; the Council will not approve events where facilities will not be made available.   We have used Biros: 570-672-4140 and Mays: 570-256-6287

  7. The Susquehanna Warrior Trail is “Pack in-Pack out.”  The event organizer is responsible for trash clean-up and removal.
