Preparing the trail for summer

We recently started preparing the trail for summer by removing leaves and debris from the trail surface with our lawnmower donated by Kate and Tom Hofherr. This first section is between Shickshinny and the Pa Fish and Boat Commission Union Township Boat Launch. The pictures show you before and after. Jason Hilley provided safety patrol. He removed objects that might harm the mower and warned me when people enjoying the trail approached so the mower could be shut down. He also handed out our business cards so people know that it is just volunteers that maintain this trail. When the whole trail surface is clear we will start mowing the shoulders. This follows the efforts last fall and winter with a tractor front end loader and a brush hog to move multi-flora roses and other obstacles away from the trail bed.
