2011 Flood Damage repairs are underway – From Lance December 4th Cleanup We were joined by several new trail friends and made some meaningful post flood recovery progress. Hunlock Gardens Trail Head Mud on the trail head trail was pealed up by runners Tony Korch and Jen Stec, Gerry Hart and me. We were tiring out when college students David Chestnut, Patrick Buscavage, Allison Schaffer, Vincent Pietras, Tom Kanios, and Kyle Foury arrived. They helped finish the mud removal and spread the trailer load of top coat. They were late because I didn't let my wife Sandy know were we were going to work after the initial gathering so she didn't know when contacted. She thinks one student didn't find us. Thanks to Julie for sending them to us. Jerry Hart also picked up trash around the trail head, but she did leave a big sofa in case anyone is looking for one. Shickshinny My friend and neighbor Jerry Shimmel, his Ford F350 full of top coat, Ray and Mathew Zajac, and Andy Demko went to Shickshinny and repaired erosion damage from the Opera House up to the back of the insurance agency. Jerry hauled down a total of three loads of top coat. Our top coat pile, compliments of Pikes Creek Site Contractors continues to be a blessing. Cub Scouts Talked to Annette Dunn tonight who informed me that Town Hill Pack 17 picked up litter from the Union Township Boat Launch to Shickshinny on Saturday. Another earned merit badge. Thanks, we hope to see you guys on the trail. Let me know if you don't want to be on this list, or if you know of someone who you think would like to be on this distribution list. 2011 Flood Damage Report Donated Trail Mower Donated Trail Sprayer $1,000 donated in memory of Mel Evans 2011 5K Race /Fun Walk Report: The 2011 race/fun walk was held Saturday April 2. Our 2011
Susquehanna Warrior Trail 5K was a tremendous success. Weather predictions
for Saturday April 2nd included ominous blizzard-like conditions. We received
numerous calls asking if our annual race was “still on.” Yes, it was. We
faithfully conduct our event despite rain, sleet, snow and, on occasion,
sunshine. This years’ event drew 180 runners and 43 walkers. A total of 223
individuals participated in our pre-spring gathering, which featured music,
food and a collective attempt to forget winter. As Race Director, let me say
that our event surpassed expectations. In only four-years, it has arrived as
one of the region’s premier running competitions. We have the numbers, the
quality and the excitement. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the success
of this fantastic program, and there were many. Max Furek, Race Director |
